Report Abstract:

Thanks to the revival and development of deep convolutional neural networks, human-centered visual perception computing, especially face recognition, has made a leap forward in the past 10 years. This report will introduce the new opportunities brought by computer vision for measuring or assessing human emotions, affections, and other psychological perception tasks in the "post-face recognition era". The report will focus on the research progress of the VIPL research group at the Institute of Computing in the past two years in areas such as expression recognition, facial action (AU) detection, gaze estimation and tracking, especially how to design self-supervised learning loss functions to use larger scale unlabeled data in response to the severe lack of labeled data in this field, and discuss the challenges and future development trends in related fields.

Speaker's Bio:

Shan Shiguang, a researcher and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Computing of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the director of the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Information Processing of the Institute of Computing of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was elected an IEEE Fellow in 2021. He has long been engaged in research work in the fields of artificial intelligence such as computer vision, pattern recognition, and machine learning. His papers have been cited more than 35,000 times by peers at home and abroad (Google Scholar). The intelligent recognition technology and other research results he completed won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2015, the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2005, and the second prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award in 2021. He is a leading talent in the national ten thousand people plan, an outstanding young person of the National Fund Committee, an expert with special allowances from the State Council, a winner of the CCF Young Scientist Award, and a winner of the Tencent Science Exploration Award
