Lecture Abstract:

Human behavior is complex, especially in adults. In everyday social situations, most people control and conceal true emotions due to social etiquette, specific motivations, etc. In machine vision research, traditional emotion recognition models based on explicit or even performed facial expressions and body movements have limited effectiveness in real interactive scenarios. We believe that facial micro-expressions and body micro-poses can more accurately reflect a person's true internal emotions. This presentation will introduce the progress of our research in the areas of micro-expressions and micro-poses, including datasets, algorithms, and current challenges.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Xiaobai Li is a Hundred Talents Professor at the School of Cyberspace Security, Zhejiang University, and a Ph.D. supervisor. He is also a Senior Member of IEEE. Dr. Li obtained his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Peking University, Master's degree in Biophysics from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Ph.D. from the Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis, University of Oulu, Finland. He was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship by the Finnish Academy of Science in 2019 and served as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the University of Oulu from 2020 to 2022. His research interests include multimodal emotion computing with video analysis at its core, micro-expression recognition, remote physiological signal measurement, and applications in health and biometrics. He has published over 60 articles and two monographs, with over 6400 citations on Google Scholar and an H-index of 35. Dr. Li serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE TCSVT, Image Vision Computing, and Frontiers in Psychology journals. He has organized multiple academic competitions and workshops at conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, and ACM MM.
