Recently, the Anhui Provincial Market Supervision Administration and the Civil Affairs Department of Anhui Province jointly issued the "Notice on the Announcement of Typical Cases of Group Standards in Anhui Province for the Year 2023" (Wan Shi Jian Han [2024] No. 298). The group standard (T/JQR 12-2023, Data Security Protection for Roadside Units in Connected Vehicles) reported by Professor Hu Donghui's team from the School of Computer and Information at Hefei University of Technology, under the auspices of the Anhui Robot Society, has been honored as one of the "Top Ten Cases" among the typical cases of group standards in Anhui Province for the year 2023.

Technology-Driven to Address Major Industry Development Needs

With the continuous development of 5G networks and artificial intelligence, vehicular networking technology is advancing rapidly, and the vehicular networking industry ecosystem is flourishing. However, the vehicular networking field faces many technical challenges, especially security issues that severely restrict its healthy development and application.

Against this backdrop, Professor Hu Donghui's team carried out research related to vehicular network security. To support the standardized implementation of this research work, the group standard "Data Security Protection for Roadside Units in Connected Vehicles" (from now on referred to as "the Standard") was introduced. The formulation of the standard focuses on data security and privacy protection, serving the security needs of vehicular networking infrastructure and data flow, playing a significant role in standardizing the vehicular networking industry.

Innovative Standards Focus on Full Lifecycle Data Security Protection

The data operation by roadside units involves processes such as collection, transmission, storage, and processing. For the first time, the team proposed particular norms for data operations of roadside units. The standard specifies the specific security requirements for data collection, transmission, storage, and processing in a vehicular networking environment, achieving complete lifecycle data security protection for roadside unit data.

Through the implementation of the group standard, significant progress has been made in standardization aspects such as data security, privacy protection, identity management, data transmission, and digital forensics at the roadside unit end. This provides a solid foundation and strong support for the healthy development of vehicular networking technology.

Empowering the Industry to Promote Scientific Research and Social Benefits

Guided by the standard, the team actively advanced research related to vehicular networks, applying for more than ten invention patents and software copyrights. They published over twenty papers in high-level international journals such as "IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing," "IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics," and "IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology." Additionally, the team is committed to cultivating scientific talent in intelligent connected vehicle security, laying a sustainable talent foundation for industry's future development.

The work carried out under the guidance of this standard has achieved good social benefits. The related research aligns well with the development trends of vehicular networks, meeting the development needs of the vehicular networking industry. The team cooperated with vehicular networking enterprises, actively adapting to the development trend of intelligent vehicles and jointly promoting industry development.
